Skandalus is Tobago Band of the Year

TALES out of Eurasia, a presentation of Skandalus led by Lindy Davidson and Nelsia Ashby, out of Roxborough, copped the Band of The Year title in Tobago with a tally of 1,351 points following the Parade of the Bands in Scarborough on Carnival Tuesday.

Taking second spot with a score of 1,318 points was Ah Slice of Paradise, a production of Stoute Next Generation led by Candice Chang-Sandy. Super Nova — a presentation of KIT Promotions, with designer/bandleader Krystoff Alfred, placed third on 1,284 points. Lue-Ann Melville and Associates’ presentation The Imperial Rome — The Way of The Warriors, another band out of Roxborough, took fourth spot with 1257 points, followed by Minstrels of Tobago, a production of Len Toppin, also out of Roxborough, on 1,246 points.

In other results released yesterday by the Tobago Festivals Commission, Hello, Hello Africa — a Medium Band presentation of Mas Masters led by Yvonne James, which won the Medium category also ran away with the Junior Band of The Year title with a score of 869 points, coming out of the Kiddies Carnival at the Gardenside Street Car Park, in Scarborough, on Saturday. Placing second on 855 points was Le Grand Fest, a production of D Creators, led by Pearl Duke-Orr, which won the Large category. Tribute to The Pioneers of Tobago Carnival, a presentation of Scarborough Roman Catholic Primary School, led by Mary Rogers, which placed second in the Large category, took third spot in the Band of the Year race. In fourth spot was Come N See, a production of Stoute Next Generation, led by Candice Chang-Sandy, which also placed second in the Medium category.

Among the Junior Small bands, Outta Space, a production of Mystique Promotions led by Keisha Jack, took pride of place with 789 points. Second placed was At the Cross Roads — a presentation of De Kulture Klub Ensemble led by Jesse Taylor (758 points), followed by Sweetnest — Pamela James & Associates (691 points). Meanwhile, in the J’Ouvert celebrations in Scarborough, Radio Tambrin’s production Toating Feelings, led by George Leacock, copped the J’Ouvert Band of the Year title; followed by We Get Silk & We Not Giving It Back, a presentation of Market Square Mt Grace led by Joy Ann Yeates-Prescott; and Leggings from Shorti Promotions led by Kenneth Ottley, in that order.
