Public Administration consults with PSC

Thursday, July 26 2012

THE Ministry of Public Administration (MPA) met with the Public Service Commission (PSC) on Wednesday July 11, 2012 to discuss the modernisation of Human Resource Management in the Public Service.

Commenting on the consultation, Public Administration Minister, the Honourable Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan said, “Meeting with the Public Service Commission was a definite priority for the MPA as it is one of the most important stakeholders in this process of changing the current Human Resource Management architecture. This Consultation along with others we have held with the Public Service Association (PSA) and the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) will provide the opportunity for the feedback we need to achieve genuine transformation of the public service.”

The Public Administration Minister provided an overview of the plans for the new architecture for the Public Service by saying, “The present pyramidal structure of the public service is not consistent with the present and expected demands for government services. We are going to professionalise it so that the officers who are now at the lower levels will get the opportunity for promotion and further training. At the same time, we will explore technology solutions to produce a ‘one-stop-shop’ type of service delivery platform where you can access all services from one location – even your cellphone. Because this will require more middle management staff, the structure will be diamond-shaped.”

The MPA is willing to hold consultations on public service transformation with organisations from public, private and voluntary sectors who want to participate in the process. Interested organisations may write the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration, Level 7 NALIS Building, Port of Spain or contact the Corporate Communications Division at 625-6111 extension 2086 and 2084.
