Can we pay VAT with our bonds?

THE EDITOR: The plan by Finance Minister Colm Imbert to settle outstanding VAT to the business community with bonds has been described from innovative to nonsensical and ludicrous.

While this plan is short on how it would be implemented, one wonders if it’s the precursor for the Government to settle all its outstanding debts to contractors, public servants and personal income tax in a similar manner.

Since these bonds are a financial tradeable instrument issued by the Government, it’s hoped they will also be accepted in the future as VAT payment.

What do you say, Minister Imbert?
