[UPDATED] St Ann's outpatient, drug offender shot dead

ONE of two men murdered on Friday night was being hunted by his killers who shot at him on four occasions.

Jovaughn “Logger” Pamponette, 32, did not escape the last attempt on his life, as he was gunned down in Arouca.

His mother Delilah told Sunday Newsday said he had left Arouca before to avoid his killers, but returned over a month ago.

Delilah said her first-born was shot at six weeks ago when he was knocked off his bicycle. After that shooting, he left the area but returned because he had temporary accommodation. She said prior to that, her son was shot at on several occasions and was not sure if the attacks had anything to do with marijuana, which she admitted he sold in the past.

“I used to tell him not to go out the road but he never listened. After all those attempts on his life I was bracing myself for this. I built up a strong courage to deal with it when it (him being killed) happened.”

She said her son, who had marijuana on him when he was shot Friday night, left his job at CEPEP because while working he was attacked and there were threats to kill him on sites. She said her son often said things he should not have said when he was intoxicated and while he sometimes had marijuana, "he was no pusher man". Delilah said despite all the attacks against her son, he never retaliated, despite the several attempts on his life. The mother of four said her son spent at least two hours talking to a woman at the time he was ambushed.

According to police reports around 8.15 pm, a gunman walked up to Pamponette, who was at Boundary Road, Arouca, and shot him. The gunman then escaped in a waiting car on Waterloo Road, where Pamponette lived. He was taken to the Arima District Hospital where he was declared dead.

In a separate killing, which took place about 30 minutes later, Ronald "Blackie" Paul, 32, of Upper L'anse Mitan Road, Carenage was standing near a shop when a gunman shot him once in the head and ran off.

Paul, an outpatient of St Ann's Psychiatric Hospital, was not known to police to be involved in criminal activity. Police said Paul would sometimes "trouble people" and suspect that he was killed as a result of this.

Investigations into the murders are continuing.

TWO men were killed in two shootings on Friday night, taking the murder toll to 395.

In the first incident, police said a known drug offender was at the corner of Boundary Road, Arouca when he was shot at about 8 pm. Jaivon Pamponette, 31, who lived in the area was taken to the Arima District Hospital where he died.

About 30 minutes later, Ronald "Blackie" Paul, 32, of Upper L'anse Mitan Road, Carenage was standing near a shop when a gunman hit him once in the head and ran off.

Paul, an outpatient of St Ann's Psychiatric Hospital, was not known to police to be involved in criminal activity. Police said Paul would sometimes "trouble people" and suspect that he was killed as a result of this.
