Principals breaching school policy

THE EDITOR: I noticed the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers (TTUTA) Association has given public support to the Principal of a denominational primary school in Couva who sent parents a list to purchase toiletries and cleaning products such as Lysol disinfectant wipes, garbage bags, toilet paper and disinfectant.

TTUTA president Lynsley Doodhai is fully aware this principal has breached school policy and a book list must not include these items. Mr Doodhai should condemn such acts instead of giving support. TTUTA as a responsible stakeholder must remind principals to desist from such activities.

The situation is also an opportunity for the denominational board to remind their principals to desist from such illegal actions.

TTUTA knows that schools, especially denominational schools are permitted to hold fund raising activities to buy these items and parents generally give full support to these initiatives. This tells me that parents are genuinely interested in their children education and they are also aware of the financial constraints schools face.
