Broken part caused problem on new ferry

A broken bracket which affected the function of the jet cover was the reason the Jean de la Valette had to abort its 4pm sailing on Thursday.

During its return sailing to Tobago on Thursday afternoon, at approximately 4.30 pm, an alert went off on the bridge signalling an issue in the jet room as the ferry approached the northern coast of Trinidad.

The captain decided to return to Port of Spain, where passengers were accommodated on the TT Spirit. That sailing left Trinidad a little before 8pm and arrived in Tobago after midnight.

A release on Friday from the National Infrastructure Development Company (Nidco) explained that a technical team identified that the alert was in respect of Jet Tunnel number 2.

Repairs are expected to be completed on Saturday and the vessel will return to service.

Both the T&T Spirit and the Galleons Passage continue to sail to ensure there is no disruption in the seabridge.
