TT, Windwards clash in Women's T20 final

TT escaped with a nine-run win over Guyana yesterday to advance to the final of the Cricket West Indies TT Women's Cricket Association Under-19 T20 competition at Gilbert Park in Couva.

In the other semifinal, Windward Islands defeated Barbados by 26 runs to book their place in today's final at the National Cricket Centre, from 9.30 am.

Batting first in the semifinals, TT scored 126/5 in 20 overs with captain Reanna Farrow top scoring with 26 and Shania Abdool hitting 25. Also making valuable contributions were Djenaba Joseph and Anjani Goordeen, who scored 17 not out and 17 respectively, to boost the team's total. Cherry Ann Fraser was the top bowler for Guyana, taking 2/26 in four overs.

In reply, Guyana battled hard but could only get to 117/6 in 20 overs with Mandy Mangru cracking 43, Casey Charles scoring 24 and Fraser chipping in with 18. Bowling for TT, Anna Marie Perera was the chief wicket-taker with 2/25 in four overs.

Windward Islands will be confident heading into the finals, after getting past TT by ten runs in the final round of the preliminary stage, yesterday morning.

Canada 112/6 (20 overs) (Miryam Khokar 26, Mahwish Khan 26 not out) vs Barbados 98/8 (20 overs) (Shai Carrington 41 not out, Alisa Scantlebury 17; Kamna Mirchandani 5/12, Hiba Shamshad 2/10). Canada won by 14 runs.

Windward Islands 111/8 (20 overs) (Qiana Joseph 61, Zaida James 19; April Ramoutar 3/14) vs TT 101 (18.4 overs) (Shunelle Sawh 28, Reanna Farrow 25; Shawnisha Hector 2/15, Z James 2/10). Windward Islands won by ten runs.

Consolation Match:

Canada 174/6 (20 overs) (Sonali Vig 43 not out, Mahwish Khan 26) vs Jamaica 102/9 (20 overs) (Lena Scott 38, Annalise Johnson 11; S Vig 2/18, Kamna Mirchandani 3/16). Canada won by 72 runs.
