Lewis looks for another Carifta medal

AKILAH Lewis wants to improve on her bronze medal effort when the 2019 Carifta Games begins in Cayman Islands, on Saturday.

Lewis was part of the TT team that won 17 medals at the 2018 Carifta Games – four gold, six silver and seven bronze.

Lewis copped bronze in the girls 100m Under-20 event and will be eager to bring home silverware again.

In an interview on Tobago Sports Facebook page Lewis said she is anticipating another Carifta Games. “Yes I am actually very excited but probably not as much as the first Carifta, but I know what I have to do so I just have to stay focused and get the job done.” Lewis said after coming third she knows a lot of training was required to improve on that performance.

“My goal of course is to make it to the final, that is the first thing, and get on the medal podium and hopefully with some personal bests.

“Knowing that I was among the top three at the Carifta Games last year, I know that I had to put in a lot of work to enable me to get on top of the podium and get the gold medal. I think knowing that, I had that in mind, and I was focused on training,” Lewis said.

Lewis said she wants to attend university and represent TT at the senior level. “(I want) to go to university (and compete) at the NCAA Championships and probably win a few medals and represent my country at Olympics and World Championships.”

The Carifta Games will be held from Saturday until Monday.
