No way to treat visitors
THE EDITOR: I have been visiting Tobago every year since 2000 and have been getting extensions since 2004. This time however I was refused after a very brief interview. No reasons were given and I was treated in a very highhanded manner. I duly left the island in January in a very angry and frustrated frame of mind.
I fulfilled all the criteria – having adequate funds, housing and a valid return ticket. I understand that I am by no means the only person to have been treated in this manner.
If TT wishes to encourage long-stay visitors this is just not the way to go about it.
Since being back in the UK I have been in contact with the Immigration Department which seems very reluctant to inform me of my rights; the same goes for your high commission.
