Clothes thief to cops: 'Boss, I under pressure'

A 44-year-old Laventille man was arrested early yesterday for stealing men's clothing from a boutique in downtown Port of Spain.

Police said at around 3 am, members of the Inter Agency Task Force received a report of a break-in at Sweet Candy's Fashion at Capital Plaza, Frederick Street.

When they arrived they saw the man walking away from the store holding three bags. On seeing the police car, he started to run. The police chased him and caught him on Prince Street. The stolen goods included men's shirts, vests and a bathroom set.

The man reportedly told them he was "under pressure" as the reason for stealing the items. Police believe he stole the items with the intention of selling them.

He was taken to the Port of Spain CID and is expected to be charged.
