RELATIVES of murdered PC Kryston Ramirez said he was filling-in for a friend at the Classic Bar, Carapo where he was gunned down yesterday afternoon.

Speaking with Newsday at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, this morning Ramirez's relatives said he was working extra duty at the bar to pay for his 5-year-old daughter's birthday party next week.

"His friend was supposed to be working at that bar but he wasn't answering his phone, so they called him (Ramirez) out instead. He was already tired but he did it anyway because his daughter's birthday is next week and she said she wanted a pool party."

Relatives described Ramirez as a loving father who was protective of his two daughters and dreamed of climbing the ranks in the police service.

They said one of Ramirez's daughters died from medical complications three years ago.
