UWI, why host Cudjoe book launch?

THE EDITOR: I have just completed reading The Slave Master of Trinidad written by the distinguished Selwyn Cudjoe. It’s a badly written book. There is a lack of coherence of ideas, flawed analysis and biased interpretations.

It’s surprising that the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, decided to sponsor and facilitate the launch of this book.

It’s even more surprising to learn that the great Prof Cudjoe is neither part of the full-time or part-time academic staff at UWI. How could UWI, with its constant complaining of cutbacks and lack of funding, decide to host this launch? How could UWI be associated with a book that lacks objectivity?

During the past five years, requests from authors (employed at UWI) have been rejected or ignored. Now I realise that only those few people focusing on certain topics and friends with the ruling government will have privileges.
