Coosal's treats Madras Primary pupils

PUPILS of the Madras Government Primary School in Cunupia were treated to gifts meals and snacks from the management of the Coosal's Group of Companies on Tuesday as long-time school benefactor Sieunarine Coosal rolled out his 13th annual Christmas treat.

Smiling faces filled the corridors and classrooms as Coosal and son Rajiv Coosal and other management staff distributed gifts and items to the pupils.

Coosal, who also sponsored the construction of a music room at the school earlier this year, said he felt it necessary to give back to the children of the community and recalled his own childhood during Christmas time.

"We do a lot of stuff for the school in terms of whatever support we can provide. We have a building in the community and some of the parents of the children are even employees with us, so it's nice to see the joy on the faces of the students.

"Now that I'm with these children, you really have to think about whether you were not fortunate enough to get a toy, so it takes you back in memory in these classrooms."

On Saturday, Coosal intends to donate $100,000 to the Salvation Army and will be distributing gifts to pupils of the Maracas, St Joseph, Seventh Day Adventist Primary School.

Principal of the Madras Government Primary School Cherry Ann Briggs told told Newsday she was grateful for the assistance of benefactors like Coosal and praised him for his efforts in supporting the school.

"Every year he donates toys and snack bags. We are a small school and even though we try to do our own fundraising we are a small school and we aren't always able to have events like these.

"Some of our children are underprivileged, he is a long-time contributor, we look at him as part of the Madras family."
