Cariah XI in dominant position in trial match

THE YANNIC Cariah XI dominated the penultimate day of the three-day TT Red Force trial match against the Imran Khan XI, at the National Cricket Centre, Couva yesterday.

The Cariah XI, from their overnight score of 282 runs for six wickets, were dismissed for 376. In reply, the Khan XI were bundled out for 134, and the Cariah XI closed the day, in their second innings, on 24 without loss, for an overall lead of 266.

The Cariah XI got a stroke-filled 71 not out from Terrance Hinds (86 balls, four fours and five sixes), with fellow all-rounder Tion Webster chipping in with 64 (79 balls, six fours and four sixes).

The team’s innings revolved around a knock of 125 from opener Jeremy Solozano.

Khan, with his leg-breaks, took the last four wickets to fall, to end with 4/85. Off-spinner Bryan Charles had 3/91 and left-arm spinner Ricky Jaipaul got 3/94. The Khan XI were skittled out in only 31.5 overs, with medium-pacer Javon Searles collecting 3/16, left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein 2/12, ex-TT youth team left-arm pacer Shaaron Lewis 2/18 and veteran fast-medium pacer Marlon Richards 2/24.

Opener Kamal Pooran was the leading scorer for the Khan XI with 37 (19 balls, six fours and a six), while there were knocks of 26 from Ewart Nicholson, 22 from Amir Jangoo and 20 from Cephas Cooper.

In their second innings, the Cariah XI openers Kyle Hope and Solozano were unbeaten on 19 and four respectively.
