Take $ and run

THE EDITOR: Over the past few weeks I listened to many on the Petrotrin issue, industrial consultants, legal opinions, accountants, politicians and union leaders. One of the messages that was very clear to me was the way the Petrotrin scenario is playing out, it would be wise to take what is promised now and move on.

As a citizen looking in, what I am seeing is “water more than flour” – an old saying. I do hope that all the workers are paying attention to all the comments being made and not just following OWTU leaders blindly but are judging the situation for themselves.

If Petrotrin should have to close down because they simply cannot meet their expenses, do the workers truly understand that what was a promised “enhanced package” could be gone with the wind? The longer Petrotrin workers wait, the greater the possibility of losing out big time. It is about time someone laid the cards on the table for the sake of the employees.

I would hate to see those five-thousand-plus workers being left out in the cold and not get their just dues because of bad advice. Whether today or tomorrow, what is on the cards for Petrotrin will happen.

What is important for the workers is getting the best deal and, I repeat myself, taking the first hand is the way to go. Please give this careful consideration there is life after Petrotrin especially if you can have a tidy sum in your hand to start.
