Something foul is afoot

THE EDITOR: This country that I call home, this small piece of the earth that has nurtured me throughout my life, is turning out to be a sick, rotting caricature of a nation.

Having read the most damning revelations in the media, I have lost all respect for our judiciary as it exists today. Without justice, there can never be peace! Further to this, I witnessed an unfortunate display of unbridled arrogance and contempt by a Minister who indulged in childish obstructionism.

The Opposition Leader alleged that the Government had distorted the financial details of Petrotrin’s performance regarding the taxes submitted to the Treasury. I am left to wonder how much lower will this PNM government allow itself to sink in its self-made mire of treachery. Where is their collective conscience? What sinister force has taken hold of these men and women?

Not only have citizens been treated to brazen lies uttered by men in suits with straight faces, but we have also heard the most serious allegations involving financial transactions that involve a viable state enterprise that is about to be “moth-balled.”

We have heard very few details about the new “business model” that is to be imposed by these very people whose words we cannot ever trust! The debt with which that state enterprise has been saddled was deliberate and it has inflicted a mortal wound under circumstances that ought to be the subject of a thorough and impartial forensic investigation. And these people behave as though they are feudal lords holding dominion over their subjects!

Something foul is afoot, and it must be stopped! This canker that is the present cabinet must be excised, and the will of the people be sought! Should this not happen we are all doomed if we allow these people to continue their watch over the demise they have fashioned for our nation!
