Sea bridge collapse and the PP govt

THE EDITOR: The breakdown in services of the Tobago sea bridge, in my recollection, never happened under the governance of former prime minister Patrick Manning. Service was dependable even when differences of opinion – conflict – arose with Tobago.

Those worst affected by the new interruptions are all Tobagonians and all the small trades between the islands and among islands. We can think about those who are ill, the elderly, students and so on, and smaller operators in the tourist service industry.

The big Trinidad conglomerates are much less affected because they can deliver in bulk, can afford to carry inventory and can absorb slowdowns in revenues.

What is the “wisdom” that brought about the state of affairs when the People’s Partnership, with all that money it had, could easily have allocated maintenance and contingency funds, as well as capital reinvestment provisions? Was it the wisdom of total negligence and “don’t-care-ness” (as we say)?

There are beastly ironies to the whole thing. The same rebels against Manning who gave the election up to the said PP regime must remain dumb before the Opposition’s wicked innuendoes about ferry failure and rottweilers.

This exposes the PP’s propensities in a full light; and exposes PM Dr Keith Rowley’s powerlessness to do anything there all the same. As a capitalist who scored with the PP indicated, all an entrepreneur has to do is bide time, it won’t affect his way of life; and he does not have to gallery with it.
