TT shot putter grabs silver in Italy

TT's Portious Warren claimed a silver medal at the Women's shot put final, moments ago, at the World University Games 2019, held in San Paulo Stadium,Napoli, Italy.

Warren recorded a distance of 17.82m for the precious silver medal, beating Poland's Klaudia Kardasz, who threw 17.65m. The eventual winner was Canadian Sarah Mitton with a distance of 18.31m.

Warren was also in the final of the women's Discus yesterday, but unfortunately fouled all three throws. Her teammate Cherisse Murray placed 15th overall with a distance of 14.96m.

Head of delegation and president of Tertiary Sports of TT (TSATT), Ian Pritchard said, " It’s a great feeling that TT has created history by gaining its first medal at these prestigious games. With five athletes at these games and making four finals we have definitely signaled that TTO can be a force at these games."

He continued, " We experienced tremendous difficulties along the way but eventually Portious has done us well and brought glory to TT. We now await Tyra Gittens in the final of the High Jump on Saturday. She’s extremely hyped and now further buoyed by Portious’ success."
