Judge injures leg muscle at triathlon

HIGH COURT judge Kevin Ramcharan suffered a leg muscle injury and had to pull out of the 2018 Massy-sponsored Rainbow Cup Olympic triathlon event at the Courland Bay Heritage Park, Tobago yesterday.

As a result, he was unable to finish the course, which featured a 1.5-kilometre swim, a 40-kilometre bike ride and a 10-kilometre run.

Ramcharan shot into the public spotlight a fortnight ago after he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

He appeared in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court on May 28, a day after his midnight arrest at the scene of a crash in Maraval. He did not enter a plea since the prosecution sought to amend the charge against him. The judge will return to court on July 3.

Also competing yesterday was Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh, chairman of the Siparia Regional Corporation, who completed the race in three hours 58 minutes and 40 seconds, to finish in 46th position.

A veterinarian by profession, the 46-year-old Ramadharsingh served as minister of the people and social development in the People’s Partnership administration from 2010-2014.
