Sat matters as never before

THE EDITOR: Satnarayan Maharaj is not one inch different than he has ever been for the past 70 years. He might be older but has been uniformly toxic in his rhetoric for many a year.

It is the people around Maharaj who have changed. Some have become more cautious, some more bold to query his behaviour, but Maharaj was never one to take prisoners in his wars against anyone standing in the way of his preferred desires.

It is far too late to try to remove Maharaj’s fangs.

It is not for me to extol his virtues.

What he has done for the Hindu community is his life’s work. When the registered analysts say that the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha is a religious organisation and that the man has little or no political following, I beg to differ. He has it now in 2018.

Because of his strangulation hold on the governance of the Maha Sabha schools he has been on the conscience and understanding of life in TT, in the Hindu context, for every Hindu child attending these schools.

The thousands of lawyers and doctors and other professionals of Hindu Indo-TT origin who graduated from these schools know of Sat as a heavy task master. Succeed in your studies, or else.

For Indian Arrival Day 2018, if asked who is the most influential Hindu alive today in TT, Maharaj is the man. We are not talking wealth. He cares not who might love or who might hate him. That is not his business to worry about.

Being a female and non-Hindu makes me able to see what the Hindu analysts prefer to ignore at this juncture. They owe Maharaj because of him encouraging/demanding excellence only of the pupils and teachers in the Maha Sabha classrooms.

It has always been alleged/assumed that the Hindu vote belonged to the Hindu pundits and their followers.

Maharaj’s inability to sway the electorate for himself might have been because he could not convincingly ride two horses.
