Cutting throats of opponents

THE EDITOR: It is interesting to note that the political leader of the UNC, having made the call for young fresh blood in the party, has welcomed with open arms has-beens to drive her home. What can be the reason for the former chairman of the COP to be the new bridegroom on the UNC platform?

Strange as it may seem, the reason lies in the DNA of our politics. A politics that is centred around the philosophy of “cut-throat.” Cut the throat of your opponents by having high-profile members of another party dance with you.

Panday did it with Ralph Maraj and Dr Sharon-Ann Gopaul-McNicol. Williams did it with Lionel Seukeran. Kamla Persad-Bissessar did it with Ganga Singh and Dr Bhoe Tewarie. Winston Dookeran and Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan would not dance and they ushered in “new politics.”
