Mariah Shade scored a beaver-trick to give Trinidad and Tobago women’s football team a crushing 10-0 victory against US Virgin Islands last night in the second fixture of Group C in the CONCACAF Caribbean Women’s Qualifier at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

The victory is the perfect start for coach Jamaal Shabazz and his team who are hoping to qualify for the 2019 World Cup in France after narrowly missing out on the 2015 tournament.

Versatile TT player Patrice Superville opened the scoring in the 15th minute when she latched on to a loose ball in the box to finish smartly far post, giving USVI’s goalkeeper Levania Lawrence no chance.

TT captain Tasha St Louis showed off her playmaking skills, producing a glorious defence-splitting pass from half line to Shade who calmly slotted it home for a 2-0 lead.

Karyn Forbes, known for her long range shooting, scored another spectacular goal, giving the home team the 3-0 advantage. She dribbled down the left, easily got past her defender and let loose a scorching shot in the top corner, leaving goalie Lawrence stranded in the 37th minute.

St Louis joined the scoring party, making up for some early missed chances by adding her team’s fourth in the 39th minute. The next minute, Shade lashed in a left-footer for her second goal as the floodgates opened.

Defender Jenelle Cunningham made it 6-0 with a powerful strike outside the box just before half-time.

At the hour mark, Kedie Johnson scored a header from a right-sided cross from Shade to increase the scoreline to 7-0.

To make matters worse for the visiting team, USVI’s Katelyn Wiater scored an own goal in the 73rd.

Shade completed her hat-trick in the 81st minute, finishing from an acute angle after Johnson initial shot was blocked.

Shade notched her fourth goal and her team’s 10th with a flicked shot off a Forbes corner which completed the thumping victory by the home team.
