Young: Reject unpatriotic voices

THE population must beware of people who want the country to fail and who oppose corruption-busting, said Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Stuart Young, in his Mid Year Review speech in the Lower House yesterday.

He slammed those “unpatriotic voices” whom he said want nothing good for the country but who instead will go to any length to destroy it. “We will not allow that,” Young vowed.

He urged the population to listen carefully to who exactly is opposed to the TT Revenue Authority (TTRA), follow-the-money legislation, explain-your-wealth legislation, and this country’s signing of international treaties against corruption. Young complained that the former People’s Partnership (PP) government had used $7 billion in cash to pay OAS Construtora, the Brazilian firm now involved in the world’s biggest corruption scandal that he said has even touched that country’s past leaders.

Young lamented that just before TT’s last general election, the PP government had signed a deal to let that firm off the hook of accountability. He recounted that in his probing of dubious deals done in 2010 to 2015 under the PP government, now certain evidential documents have been found to be missing/non-existent. Of the current Government, Young vowed, “There’s no deal-cutting here, ‘I’ll give you the cheque if you give me 10 percent.’”
