Historic houses can earn TT forex

THE EDITOR: Our Prime Minister has reassured citizens that the restored Stollmeyer’s Castle “is a piece of our legacy” and that each and everyone of us should know the significance and history attached to all historic buildings, and especially the Magnificent Seven around the Savannah.

When TT is serious about diversifying its economy with tourism in the forefront, these buildings can be restored and opened daily to the public, bringing much needed foreign currency. Cruise ships can advertise visits to them by their passengers for a fee before they head to the Pitch Lake, Temple on the Sea, Maracas Bay etc.

In neighbouring Barbados there are open house days.

At the Francia Plantation House in St George the original family, who still lives there, allows tourists access to certain rooms, as is also done in England. This gives visitors an opportunity to witness the charm of a past era and the stories attached to the owners.

On open house days at the Magnificent Seven, we can have on sale well made souvenirs including T-shirts, arts and craft, steel pans, postcards etc.

Refreshments like mauby, sour sop sorrel drinks along with our local rum cake and other fare can be served at reasonable prices.

And of course we locals can bring our friends to visit also.
