Sign we are a caring people

THE EDITOR: I was very happy to learn that the Ministry of Education had announced that the Guyanese student would be allowed to write the SEA Exam next month.

I commend the ministry for taking quick action to find a resolution to the issue involving this student who was being prevented from sitting the exam because he is not a citizen of this country.

The ministry has treated this matter in a humane manner by taking this course of action, thereby facilitating the right of the child to sit the SEA exam come May 3.

Education Minister Anthony Garcia’s prompt engagement of the Attorney-General to ensure the child be immediately returned to his Standard Five class is commendable.

The ministry’s action has brought relief to not only the child but also the parents who would have been emotionally distressed if the child was denied the opportunity to write the exam.

The decision shows that nationals are caring and compassionate people for our fellow Caribbean brothers and sisters.
