Pres, eat more local

THE EDITOR: So when the President met with the senators they had a “traditional fare of orange cranberry scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream ... The menu also included smoked salmon sandwiches, turkey croissants, lemon poppy seed loaf (cake) with an orange liqueur glaze, mini fruit tarts and fresh fruit medley in mini puff pastry cups” (Newsday, April 13).

The President is not setting a good example at all. Why not have more local foods? Fish from the Gulf of Paria, cassava, locally made sweet potato pasta, for example. And coconut water to drink.

People are “catching their royal” in this recession, so the President should lead by example and show how meals can be prepared simply and economically. Come on, Madame President, step up to the plate and set an example.

CHARLES DE MATAS, Trincity
