Worker fights back during Hakka robbery

IN WHAT is being described as an unusual show of courage by a robbery victim, a worker at the Hakka Express restaurant in the Shoppes of Maraval resisted bandits during a daylight robbery on Sunday afternoon.

CCTV footage uploaded to social media shows two men going behind the counter and attacking clerks and forcing them to open the cash register.

However one of the workers could be seen fighting with the bandits as they tried to force her into the kitchen area.

Another worker is seen trying to raise an alarm.

In the end, the bandits escaped with $3,000 taken from the cash register. None of the workers were hurt.

Police confirmed that the robbery took place at 5.15 pm.

When Newsday visited the restaurant yesterday, staffers declined to comment.
