Suspect in jewel store robbery among 9 held

A 28-YEAR-OLD East Dry River, Port of Spain man, wanted in connection with the daring daylight robbery at RT’s Jewellery in San Fernando last week, was among nine people detained in a series of exercises mounted by officers of the Port of Spain CID between Friday night and Saturday.

Six women, a Jamaican immigrant and another man wanted for several shootings were among those detained.

According to reports, officers led by Acting Senior Superintendent Ajith Persad who is the head of Port of Spain CID and including Superintendent Hercules, ASP Parriman, Inspector Powder, Sgt Raymond Austin along with other officers detained the six women at Murray Street, Woodbrook on Friday. The women’s ages ranged from 23 to 35 and were charged with loitering and will appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate today.

Last weekend, another seven women were also detained and charged with loitering at Murray Street, Woodbrook.

On Saturday, the same team of officers went to East Dry River Port of Spain where they searched an apartment and detained one of the suspects in the RT’s Jewellery robbery.

Officers also searched another apartment in the same area, seized five kilogrammes of marijuana and detained an illegal immigrant and another man wanted for several shootings in the Port of Spain area.
