Congrats to Harvard at 75

THE EDITOR: Congratulations to the Harvard Sports Club for achieving the milestone of 75 years in existence, a quite wonderful achievement.

This club, which was founded in 1943, has produced some of the leading national sporting icons in the country.

Some of the names that come vividly to mind are Jamil Ali, Patsy Steele, Gary Dore, Cuthbert Nimblett, Jeff Gellineau, Billy Samuel, Holly Carrington and Dwight Day.

The club, through its Cricket Clinic, has been able to recognise talent from a very early age and one Brian Charles Lara of Santa Cruz, one of the leading West Indies batsmen of his time, was a product of the clinic’s programme.

Through the efforts of its senior members, the Harvard Harps Steel Orchestra was founded and this steelband is an integral part of this great club.

So once again I extend my heartiest congratulations to the members and well-wishers of the Harvard Sports Club.
