Five sailings cancelled

FIVE sailings of the T&T Express, from February 23 to February 25, have been cancelled due to wave heights predicted to be in excess of three metres for the passengers’ vessel.

In a release yesterday, the Port Authority (PATT) said the public is reminded, at this time of the year the sea conditions can impact on the sailing schedule as, from time to time, due to the wave heights.

In addition, there has also been a Rough Seas Bulletin issued by the Meteorological Office advising of the existing sea state, and the Buoyweather.com which the Captains use to monitor the sea conditions.

The PATT said three sailings from Port of Spain on February, 23, 24, and, 25 have been cancelled, while two sailings from Tobago on February 24 and 25 have also been cancelled.

The release said sea conditions will continue to be monitored daily and should there be a reduction in the wave height, the public will be advised accordingly on the resumption of the service.

However, the cargo vessel, the MV Cabo Star will continue to sail as scheduled, at 2 pm from Port of Spain, and at 11 pm from Tobago.

When contacted and asked if the same arrangement with Caribbean Airlines Ltd, used during the extended Carnival weekend, would be used to accommodate affected passengers this weekend, PATT chairman Allison Lewis said, “no.”
