Police probe drug deals near Deyalsingh office

NORTH Eastern Division police are into a drug building located in near the constituency office of St Joseph MP Terrence Deyalsingh.

On Tuesday during a police town meeting at the St Joseph Community Centre, a member of the public complained about drugs being sold openly close to Deyalsingh’s constituency office.

Deyalsingh later confirmed that he made a report about the issue to the police. Also at that meeting, ACP McDonald Jacob responded that this issue will be dealt with and he will have the activity shut down immediately.

Northern Division head Snr Supt Michael Daniel informed Newsday yesterday that there was a building used to sell drugs but it was not opposite Deyalsingh’s office, located at Circular Road, Mt Lambert, but on the other side of the Priority Bus Route. Daniel reported the establishment has been raided a couple of times so far and it was under the purview of North Eastern Division and not Northern Division.

He said, however, that this does not prevent Northern Division officers from looking into it and patrols would check the building when they are passing.
