Russian woman,husband on bond

A Russian-born woman who is due to deliver her baby in March, was on Monday placed on a bond to keep the peace. Tatiana Rukavishnikova, 30, of Russia, is not charged with any offence, but her husband, David McMillan, 50, of Claxton Bay, is charged with assaulting her and he as well was placed on a bond to keep the peace.

Senior magistrate Cherril-Anne Antoine placed Rukavishnikova and McMillan on a bond to keep the peace in their home until conclusion of the trial of the charge against the husband. Last week Wednesday, McMillan appeared before Antoine on the charge which alleged that he cuffed and beat Rukavishnikova at their home in Crescent Drive, Union Village. The woman, who has been living in the country for the past two years, is 32 weeks pregnant.

Antoine had remanded McMillan into custody and he reappeared yesterday. He pleaded for bail while Rukavishnikova stood next to the dock her husband was in. Mc Millan denied that he had ripped his wife’s passport. He said he was the one who was being physically abused. “It is not true I don’t let her go anywhere. She going back and forth to Russia,” McMillan said.

Prosecutor PC Cleyon Seedan said the Immigration authorities and the human trafficking unit have conducted investigations. Antoine asked Rukavishnikova when she is due to have her baby and she replied “in March.” Antoine said she must invoke her powers under the Summary Courts Act and place both of them on a $2,000 bond to keep the peace until the completion of the case. She granted McMillan $20,000 bail or a cash alternative of $5,000. The case will be heard on February 5.
