Lamenting 48 murders for 2018, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday invited Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi to meet urgently to find bipartisan ways to tackle crime. In a statement she said she had replied to the AG’s recent correspondence.

However she lamented he had not addressed her call for a joint Government-Opposition team to draft anti-crime legislation. Persad-Bissessar urged the Anti-Gang Bill be sent to a Joint Select Committee as done for the Anti-Terrorism Bill. Saying, “now is not the time for public posturing and grandstanding given the excessive nature of violent crime which now confronts our country,” she urged a meeting at the earliest opportunity.
