A 27-year-old Curepe driver is dead after he crashed into the wall of the La Joya Sporting Complex in St Joseph. His passenger is in critical condition.

Prakash Roopia, of Beebeekee Street, was driving along the Eastern Main Road at about 11.50 pm on Thursday, when he lost control of his car.

Roopia died on the scene.

His passenger was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital.

Relatives were reluctant to speak to the media at the Forensic Science Centre (FSC) in St James yesterday, but Newsday understands that Roopai was a PH taxi driver.

A relative of Roopia’s was seen at the FSC yesterday sitting in a daze. Newsday understands that he had just identified Roopia’s body.

When approached, he said he was too distraught to speak to the media.

The autopsy yesterday confirmed that Roopia died from trauma associated with a car accident.
