Over 60 people turned up for the annual training seminar for potential judges for the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (TUCO) Calypso competitions 2018.

The event was held at the VIP Lounge of the National Carnival Commission (NCC) Queen’s Park Savannah last week.

Participants were welcomed by TUCO’s President Lutalo Masimba while Everald Snaggs, chairman of the adjudication management committee chaired the proceedings.

A minute silence was observed for the passing of Dianne Holdip a perennial participant in the annual exercise.

There were four presenters for the training seminar which included Justice Malcolm Holdip, a former Chief Calypso adjudicator/chairman of the adjudication committee, who presented an “Overview of Calypso Adjudicators”.

A piece entitled Theatre and Dance in Calypso Performers was presented by Sonia Dumas, co-ordinator for Continuum Dance Project. Musician/producer/arranger Carl “Beaver” Henderson presented Calypso Music while Dr Kela Francis Associate Professor- The Academy for the Arts and Culture at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) presented Literary Devices in Calypso.
