Suruj: Kamla will reply by Monday

Tabaquite MP Dr Surujrattan Rambachan expects Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar to reply by Monday to the Government’s proposal of retired Appeal Court judge Paula Mae Weekes as nominee for President of the Republic.

Rambachan, one of Persad-Bissessar’s team who met Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley yesterday at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s to discuss the presidential nomination, said it had been “a very collaborative meeting”.

“We are very interested to ensure the right person is picked and will be well accepted by the population.

“The Leader of the Opposition will consult the rest of the party and I’m sure she’ll make the announcement by Monday.”
