Former government senator Donna Carter-Hunt, 72, is dead, the People’s National Movement (PNM) Women’s League said yesterday in a statement which mourned her passing. She died peacefully at her home in Costa Rica, where her funeral mass was held yesterday at Jardines del Recuerdo, Heredia. After cremation, her ashes will be brought to Trinidad for burial. Carter-Hunt, a teacher, leaves to mourn her husband John Hunt. She was Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister responsible for Ecclesiastical Affairs in the Patrick Manning administration from December 28, 2001 to October 9, 2002.

In 2000 Carter-Hunt contested the St Joseph seat for the PNM, losing to the United National Congress’s Carlos John. She was a longstanding member of the party, in which she held various positions. Carter-Hunt last served TT as High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa. She was also an active member of the league.
