‘The General’ set for St James triumph

GEORGE BAPTISTE

Who can conquer General JN The Jamaica-bred son of Forest Dancer/Sea Treaty stands out like a sore thumb over his eight nomimnated rivals in the classic St James Stakes for two-year-old colts and geldings.

This race will be one of three o-features on the Arima Race Club’s Boxing Day horse racing spectacular , next week Tuesday, at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.

The manner in which “The General” obliterated his rivals in the Nursery Stakes recently, winning by 7 1/4 lengths suggests he will be very hard to beat.

Gtven that Nursery was run over1000 metres and the St James will be over 1350 metres it seems moot as he has been showing at gallops.

Country Concert and Prince Of Bellevue should be the nearest challengers to “The General” who is set to triumph again.

It will be a different kettle of fish in the St Ann’s Stakes for the two-year-old fillies, also over 1350 metres

Both Fake News and Just Cruizin have scored on debut, with former going in by 3 1/4 lengthsd over re-oppposing River Secret and Dancin Deputy over 1100 metres. But Just Cruizin was a clever 1 1/4 lengths winner over 1200 metres.

The duo will be confronted by 13 nominated fillies including Streaking Far, a winner over 1100 metres recently.
