Men arrested for having guns, ammunition, drugs

A 31-year-old man was expected to appear before a San Fernando magistrate yesterday charged with the possession of a firearm and ammunition. Sgt Ramroop and PCs Rampersad, Moses and Lange of San Fernando CID arrested the man at Embacadere, San Fernando on Tuesday. The man was standing near Block P where police searched him and found a revolver with five rounds of ammunition tucked in his pants.

Also on the exercise were members of the Southern Division Task Force. The suspect was expected to be charged last evening. And a 21-year-old Diego Martin man was arrested by the Western Division Task Force after he tried to hide a Glock pistol and a magazine in a hole at the side of a building on Monday, according to a release issued by the police yesterday.

Police in the Richplain area saw the man running up a flight of stairs with what looked like a gun in his right hand. They chased and caught him as he was trying to stash the weapon in a hole in the wall. He was arrested and the gun and a magazine containing 17 rounds of nine-millimitre calibre ammunition were seized.

In an unrelated incident, a 41-year-old Belmont man was arrested for the possession of 2.1 kilograms of marijuana with an estimated street value of $21,000. At about 5.30 pm on Tuesday, the man was driving at Coconut Drive, Morvant when police stopped him and found a clear plastic bag containing the drugs hidden underneath the driver’s seat. The man who is from Davis Street, Belmont, was arrested.
