‘Grease’ on rape, kidnapping charges

A 34-year-old man appeared in the Princes Town Magistrates’ court on Tuesday charged with ten offences including kidnapping, rape and robbery.

The accused, Roderick Raphael Titus also called “Grease”, was denied bail by Magistrate Michelle Maharajh-Brown before whom he appeared on the charges.

Titus has addresses at Fyzabad, Tabaquite, Princes Town and Siparia. Three of the charges against him alleged that in August at Gasparillo, he kidnapped, raped and robbed a woman who was awaiting a taxi to be taken home.

Five other charges against Titus allegedly occurred last month at Brasso, Tabaquite.

It is alleged that Titus shot a man with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm and had in his possession a firearm and ammunition. Brasso police also charged him with possession of the firearm and ammunition to endanger lives.

Two other charges alleged that on Thursday last at an apartment in Princes Town, he had in his possession a firearm and ammunition. PC Isaac charged him with these two offences. There are at eight warrants outstanding for Titus, three in Rio Claro and Siparia districts each and two in Barrackpore.

The alleged offences range from fraud to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. There are also two bench warrants outstanding for his arrest. Sgt Shazeed Mohammed prosecuted during the case. Titus was remanded into custody and ordered to reappear in the Princes Town Magistrates’ court on January 9.
