Calypso Rose (McCartha Linda Sandy Lewis), the undisputed queen of calypso, will receive the nation’s highest award next Monday.

Rose was among a trio of distinguished nationals who were awarded the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (ORTT) this year.

However, on the day of the ceremony, Republic Day, she was on her second Far From Home European tour. The other recipients of the award were HIV/AIDS researcher Prof Courtenay Bartholomew and former politician Dr Lenny Saith.

The presentation takes place at Queen’s Hall in St Ann’s, and guests will get an added treat with a performance by “Her Majesty.”

Earlier this year Calypso Rose won a Victoires de la Musique award, dubbed the French Grammy Awards, for Music Album in the World.

This followed the extremely successful release of her 2016 album Far From Home, which went gold in France, a first by any local artiste.

On the night of the prestigious awards ceremony in France, Calypso Rose performed, to the delight of the audience.

She then returned to Trinidad for her own full-length concert with her international band days later at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain. After Carnival and a short rest at her New York home, Rose went on her second world tour.

Last year she also received a Womex Artiste of the Year Award (Spain), a gold record award for 50,000 albums being sold (France) and Tobago’s highest award, the Tobago Day Award

From 1976 to 2017, the calypso queen has received numerous awards from all over the world, and in 2014, was conferred with an honorary doctorate of letters from the University of the West Indies.
