MURDERED: Richard Babwah

Arlene Babwah, mother of slain SRP constable Richard Babwah, said the family has some tough times to face, adding that a horrible Christmas lay ahead as they struggle to cope with his death.

Newsday spoke yesterday to Babwah, who said she was receiving support from the Police Social Welfare Association and was grateful for their assistance in light of the incident. She also said her granddaughters have not fully accepted her son’s death.

“I don’t think they have fully grasped the severity of the situation just yet. We’re all just trying to cope with the loss as best as we could, but for now it looks like a horrible Christmas ahead.” Contrary to earlier reports Babwah was not married but had a common-law-relationship with the mother of his two daughters. Babwah was shot dead on Monday evening when he reportedly tried to stop a robbery at the Long Yuan Chinese restaurant in Arouca.
