Brother in court for brother’s murder

STACY MOORE

A man yesterday appeared yesterday before a Couva magistrate charged with the December 5 murder of his 37-year-old brother, Ganesh Samaroo at Waterloo Road, Perseverance Village, Couva.

Ramraj “Baye” Samaroo, 52, was taken before magistrate Christine Charles to answer to the charge.

On Monday, police received advice from deputy Director of Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul to charge the Couva resident.

The charge was laid by Cpl Ian Bobb of the Homicide Region Three. Samaroo was represented by attorney Shirvan Ramdhanie.

It is alleged the brothers, who were also neighbours, got into an argument. Reports said the accused chopped Ganesh on the chest and he died on the spot. An autopsy confirmed he died from shock and haemorrhage consistent with multiple chop wounds. The case was adjourned to January 9. Ramraj Samaroo was remanded into police custody.
