Manzanilla murder suspect still in custody

The 60-year-old man who shot and killed a 44-year-old woman and wounded an 18-year-old on Saturday is still in police custody, while investigations continue.

The man spent the night at the Sangre Grande police station after he surrendered to police on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, the man allegedly shot up a bar at Plum Road, Manzanilla. According to relatives who witnessed the event, the man entered the bar at about 10 pm on Saturday and ordered a beer. When he was done drinking he walked to his car, took out a 12-gauge shotgun and fired at the bar.

Savitri Narine, 44, was shot in the chest and the face, and her daughter, 18-year-old Nirrmalaa Narine, was shot in the right shoulder.

Both were taken to the Sangre Grande hospital, but Savitri died.
