Christmas Village on the Esplande from December 11-16

Entrepreneurs around Tobago will showcase their goods - local food and drinks, local wines, novelty gift items, drapery, dirt oven bread, personal care services, Christmas trees and lights - at the “Christmas Village” - being hosted by the Division of Community Development from December 11-16 onthe Scarborough Milford Road Esplanade.

“Anything possible you might need for Christmas, we are trying our best to provide at the Christmas village. It is anticipated that the village will entertain over 2,500 visitors over the six days,” said Marslyn Melville-Jack, Secretary for Community Development at Wednesday’s post Executive Council media briefing at the Administrative Complex, Calder Hall.

Meville Jack also said the Division has implemented a system to monitor visitors to the site as it bids to showcase local entrepreneurs and encourage people in Tobago to buy local products. Some 73 entrepreneurs are expected to be at the Christmas Village and will next week undergo training to help them deliver professional services to visitors.

Melville-Jack also promised cultural shows daily.

“We believe that these cultural shows coupled with the visits of two cruise ships within that period to add further viability and visibility to the project,” she said, adding that the project was also expected to help generate additional income for the tenants of the Milford Road Esplanade.
