Army and police officers keep watch in front of the Cliffton Hill towers on St Paul Street in Port of Spain yesterday.

A large contingent of police and soldiers were on St Paul Street earlier yesterday helping Housing Development Corporation staff clear houses which they suspect were taken over by squatters who allegedly moved back into them after being evicted last month.

Besson Street police, led by Insp Brown of the Port of Spain CID and assisted by the Defence Force, went to HDC buildings on St Paul Street between 6.30 am and 10 am. The police changed doors and locks to several apartments.

Last month, squatters who made their homes in Clifton Hill Towers were moved leaving five families homeless.
