Days after accused fraudster Vicky Boodram tried to take her own life using a metal wire from her bra, Commissioner of Prisons Gerard Wilson said she was being kept under close watch at the Arouca Women’s Prison Facility.

Newsday spoke yesterday to Wilson, who confirmed Boodram tried to commit suicide while being held at the Barataria Police Station last week, and said she was being kept in a holding cell by herself and was in good health.

He also said items such as shoelaces, metal objects and heavy objects which might do her harm have been removed from the cell.

“We’re aware of the attempts she has made when she was being held, and we are taking the necessary precautions to ensure that she is in good health and capable of standing trial.” On Tuesday Boodram appeared before senior magistrate Maria Busby Earle-Caddle with a bandage on one of her wrists. She is expected to reappear in court on Tuesday.
