The Scotiabank Foundation and Vitas House have each received a cheque for $45,000 from HADCO.

The money is this year’s proceeds from the Yoplait’s 2 More Reasons breast cancer awareness campaign.

At the handover ceremony on Thursday at HADCO’s offices, Bhagoutie Trace, San Juan, Scotiabank Foundation support officer Cheryl Hernandez said the money would make up part of a larger $250,000 donation from the foundation to the TT Cancer Society.

That money will be used by the Cancer Society to provide screenings and conduct awareness campaigns in rural communities, while Vitas House will use its $45,000 to help cover operating costs, as the hospice does not charge its patients any money for their care.

Scotiabank Foundation director Dr Mark Pounder, who accepted the cheque from HADCO, spoke of their mutual commitment to “raising awareness and prevention of breast cancer, the leading cause of cancer mortalities among our women in TT.”

He added that through its nearly 20-year partnership with HADCO, the foundation has been able to facilitate free breast cancer screenings to more than 18,000 women who could not afford to do so.

Vitas House general manager Lilia Mootoo also thanked HADCO for helping the hospice care provider – located on the compound of the St James Medical Complex, St James – to “continue providing compassionate care” to terminally ill cancer patients.

HADCO’s marketing manager Kimberly Fraser-Camacho said the company was “extremely proud to partner with Yoplait for over ten years to aid these two organisations. During that time, we have contributed over $500,000 towards their various causes.”
