TB patient shot dead at hospital

A 31-year-old Laventille man who was a patient at the Caura Chest hospital was shot dead while sitting on the lawn at the hospital yesterday.

Police said, at about 11 am Matthew Luke, alias “Bone Face,” of Plaisance Terrace, Laventille, was sitting on the lawn when two men got out of an X-trail and fired at him, hitting him several times. Several eyewitnesses to the shooting began running in all directions to escape the killers.

Employees and patients also looked on in amazement at Luke’s body on the lawn, amidst screams from a nearby vendor. Homicide officers were quickly on the scene and the area was cordoned off.

The body was viewed by a district medical officer and removed to the Forensic Science Centre. Police believe Luke was being monitored by his killers. There were reports last evening of another murder at the John John basketball court in Laventille. Police were said to be on the scene up to late evening.

The killings pushed the murder toll to 441 for the year.
