Ex-con charged with prison officer's murder

An ex-convict has appeared before a San Fernando magistrate charged with the murder of Prison Officer I Richard Sandy, who died on Sunday October 8, following a shooting incident the day before.

According to a press release from the police, Quincy Noel, 34, of Caratal Road, Gasparillo, was also charged with possession of firearm and ammunition, when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Cherril-Ann Antoine in the First Court. He is also charged with common assault against another prison officer arising from the same incident.

The matter was adjourned to Monday December 18. Noel was released from prison four months ago, after serving a two year sentence for firearms and ammunition possession. He was charged by Cpl Sunil Ramoutar.
